Sustainability in Shelby North Carolina
Sustainability is somewhat new “buzz word” that was first used in and around the Organic Movement in the 1990’s. Simply put, sustainability is the idea that we should create an environment in which we are sustainable in our production of crops, limiting waste and utilizing the resources we have instead of creating or buying more.
At HarvestWorks we began in the direction of sustainability in 2008. We now practice sustainability across the board by doing things like saving seeds, making fertilizers from waste by-products, and “re-purposing” everyday objects. Our movable free range chicken tractor is partly made from an old non working lawnmower ready for the land fill. The fish farm was created using sustainable practice in the the tanks were created with recycled materials.
We are excited about the endless possibilities in our future applications of sustainable practices. HarvestWorks stives to become a role model in our community in the art of sustainability practices.
